Readings

Lectionary

A Lectionary is a series of readings from the Bible used every Sunday in congregational worship. In addition, there are readings appointed to be read on every major feast and festival day in the Church year, which often do not fall on a Sunday.

Within the Episcopal tradition, we use the three-year lectionary.

The years are designated AB, or C. Each yearly cycle begins on the first Sunday of Advent (the last Sunday of November or first Sunday of December). Year B follows year A, year C follows year B, then back again to A.

The Gospel of John is read throughout Easter, and is used for other liturgical seasons including AdventChristmas, and Lent where appropriate.
